So glad that I was part of your Summer 2009. We did have fun at the SPCA Walk, the Filberg Festival and Tofino…never mind the Big Time Out and the endless trips to Coombs. Want to have another adventure this summer?

I have always had strong opinions on keeping cetaceans in captivity. As a child, I noticed that killer whales kept in tanks at the Vancouver Aquarium, had their dorsal fin grossly distorted in a bent over curl. A highly visual clue that harm was being done by being kept in an unnatural environment.

I strongly urge everyone to get a copy of, watch and share the movie, ‘The Cove’. Although it is a movie mostly about the capture of dolphins (which are in fact, small whales) it has really opened my eyes to the capturing and displaying of all cetaceans for profit. There is huge money involved. The ’science’ of whales in captivity has about the same amount of justification as the Japanese whaling fleets yearly captures, ‘for scientific purposes’ .

BTW, ‘The Cove’ won an Oscar this year! You won’t be disappointed, please see it and share with as many people as you can.

Hurrah, and now I live in the Cowichan Valley after wanting to for the last 6 years. It really is so beautiful. I love being able to drive to the river, lake or ocean at anytime! All within 15minutes of our home. Although I haven’t found my favourite local vino yet, Merridale Cidery makes quite the delicious apple cider! The sparkling somerset cider is a hot westcoast day on the patio IN A BOTTLE Mmm…

I was going to say that the Cowichan Valley is my most favorite area on Vancouver Island…and then thought of the Pacific Rim, Parksville, Victoria and even our own Comox Valley and decided I couldn’t make that statement. I love the whole island! We live in one of the most beautiful areas in the whole world.

OBSESSING about barn doors too! We’re installing something like this for the Sunrise Vet Clinic… and now I’m planning on it for my own home.

Joe has been refurbishing old doors… OH MY GOODNESS – so beautiful! When you’re in the hood we’ll have to go check out the one around the corner Or – trip to Demxx?
