The Great Outdoors: Take Me Outside Day
Did you know that Canadian youth spend an average of eight hours each day in front of a computer or TV screen? However, on an island like Vancouver Island, it’s pretty hard to come up with excuses to stay inside. Whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down, there’s never a shortage of places to see and activities to enjoy. We live an incredible and beautiful place!
Thursday, October 25th is Take Me Outside Day, organized by a group of outdoor enthusiasts who see the value in being outside while counting the benefits that reconnecting with nature can provide. Reduced stress, increased energy and staying active are only a few key reasons.
One of my favourite things about being in the great outdoors is taking the time to unplug completely. My e-mail gets set to “away” mode, my phone gets turned off and I take the time to breathe in fresh air. Camping, walking, snowboarding, hiking and beach-combing are just a few of the activities I can – and do – enjoy on Vancouver Island.
Tomorrow, take the time to “unplug” for a bit. Whether you turn off you laptop and spend 15 minutes walking outside or take a full day and hike through the forest, make the most of Take Me Outside Day. And, like most things in life, it’s more fun with a friend so encourage those around you to get back to basics.
