So This Happened Last Week…
It’s hard to believe we’re back at Monday again after a week that seemed long yet was also over before I knew it. I had great intentions of more blog posts last week, but my duties as a pet parent side-lined me.
On Tuesday morning, I noticed a goopy infection creeping up in Jordy’s left eye, so I made a veterinary appointment to nip it in the bud. J and I took Jordy in the next day and were given simple eye drops to administer and clear up the problem. I had no idea what we were in for.
Within minutes of administering the eye drops later that day, Jordy’s eye was swollen. Within an hour he was furiously pawing at it. I’ll spare you the gory details, but it was very messy, so J and I rushed him back to the vet clinic immediately.
From there it snowballed. The eye drops caused an adverse reaction. Jordy’s pawing at his eye caused an ulceration of the cornea on top of the infection, so he was in a great deal of pain. Thankfully, because we acted fast, Jordy’s vision was saved. Five days’ worth of painkillers, new antibiotics and a Cone of Shame later, we were on our way home once again.
For two days straight, Jordy turned into the biggest suck – as most of us do when we’re not feeling well. I stayed home with him on Thursday, J stayed home with him on Friday, and on both days Jordy rarely left either of our laps.
The good news is that he seems to be on the mend and his eye looks ten times better than it did last week. We have a final check-up this evening to make sure the ulcer is healing. Our fingers are crossed that, following a report submitted by the vet, the pharmaceutical company will be covering most of the treatment due to the adverse reaction.
Though nowhere near the responsibility of raising a child, having a pet in your home requires a great deal of time, energy, love and – quite often – money. Please think twice before bringing one into your home and, if you do, follow the Golden Rule.
