Legendary comedian (and ‘Rufus’ to us kids of the 80s) passed away early Sunday at the age of 71, succumbing to heart failure.

To some he was a crude, crass and funny stand-up comedian, whose routine act was precedent-setting. To the rest of us, he was lovable Rufus, sent from the future to save Bill and Ted’s hides from failing history while providing them with some most excellent guitars to ensure that Wyld Stallyns’ music would, indeed, bring harmony to the world one day.

this was some sad news to wake up to today. party on, George.
He was my absolute favorite comedian.
WHAT.
no way! mr conductor!
Aw man. Just the other day my friend sent me to a site full of Carlin quotes - he truly dared to be different.
This is the first I’ve heard of this. That is so incredibly sad.
I heard that today. So sad. I was even considering get tickets to see him in November.
My cat Theodore (aka Bear) is named after Ted of Bill & Ted’s, it was one of my all time fav movies. George was brilliant in Dogma too. Such a funny man. He’ll be missed.
In ‘98 I left Vancouver during an addictive time in my life to go and live with my big sis up north to try to regain my centre. I’ve always been a voracious reader and wanted to lose myself in her book collection. The first one I dove into was “Braindroppings” by the man himself and I swear to this day I’m sure laughing that hard paved the way for a positive, fun and spirited recovery - I love you Sir Carlin!
Carlin was a true comedic guru. His words served as a mirror to show us how absurd and even horrible we can be as humans. He not only made you laugh, he made you think (hopefully).
Rest in peace George.
Loved this guy…always thinking and trying to provoke thought with his humour. I wish a few more of us were like him…
He’s my all-time favorite too. Smart, blunt and irreverent. What’s not to love?
