I say go for it! There were a few guys in the class I attended a couple nights ago. I think it all comes down to the type of studio you practice at. As I said, at least in Vancouver, many of the studios have an air of pretentiousness and competitive spirit among those practicing. “Look at me…I can stretch deeper than you!” You know, that sort of thing. I don’t want this to sound judgmental against those who do practice in, say, Yaletown, because everyone has an entitlement to practice yoga. However, if you find a studio where all those attending have similar goals in the practice, in that they all want to benefit in mind, body and spirit, you’ll find the studio to be that much more open and inviting to all that attend. so how do you girls feel about a dude in yoga class?

i really want to join my local-socal-yoga-studio but i think it’s 100% women and i am hesistant about crashing the party.

thoughts?

also, while i’m new to yoga, i look like a hot piece of ass in a pair of sweatpants….if that matters

I’ve never experienced yoga but it’s something that really appeals to me and one day I’m going to give it a whirl.

There is such a plethora of pretentious, overpriced studios in this city…I think it’s what got me away from practicing yoga in a class environment regularly, myself. It’s awesome that you ladies found a good studio.
And I think you’re absolutely right about the strength and love to be found in friendships between women.

Awww… I wish I had been able to join you guys, but apparently this was an all-gals night

(although you were definitely in my neighbourhood, I live barely 10 blocks away from The Foundation). I was at the Evening of Green Web 2.0, though. It was really fun.

We’ll have to organize another night out!
