THE PERPLEXING PUZZLE OF MY PERSONAGE

logo.JPGLet’s start with the important stuff that really matters. I am excited, elated, stoked, psyched and not at all surprised to tell you that Mount Washington Alpine Resort has the deepest snow pack in North America with 31cm of fresh powder and a mid-mountain base of over 400cm!

The timing could not be any more perfect since tomorrow is going to be an action-packed day on the hill. It’s the last day of the Kokanee Winter Festival, Elevation: A U2 Tribute, the Kokanee Krew Pageant and 2008’s first installment of the Kokanee Day For Dudes [Events Calendar]. And in case you missed it, Becky and I will be mountain-bound for February’s Kokanee Day For Dudes on Friday, February 1. Boarding, beer and babes…what more can you Kokanee Dudes ask for?

Having now ridden on both Mount Washington and the North Shore mountains, I can truly say that the trek over to the Island is more than worth it. For the comparable price of a lift ticket, in exchange you get far superior facilities, quick and cozy lifts and phenomenal snow you can only find on the Island.

Looking for something to beat the no-long-weekend-until-March blues? Becky has a few ideas to keep you inside on the chilly January nights. That is…uhh…if you’re willing to unleash your inner-geek.

I’m still writing my blog posts on a Dell PC desktop in my living room. I would really like to be writing them on an Apple. Why? First, Apples have a much more preferred OS by moi. Secondly, if I had an Apple, I could take it with me wherever I go. I’d like to call it Blog-Thru; much like Drive-Thru food, blogging would be that much more convenient. And convenience equates to more frequent posting and more frequent girlie shots.

Ask not what your blogger can do for you but what you can do for your blogger. This is pretty.

Last night I did two things I don’t normally do. One being that I was laying in bed before 10:30 p.m. and the other is that I scratched into my notebook. I hesitate to call it a journal or a diary because it’s neither of those. Perhaps “The Chronicles of Keira-Anne” would be more appropriate, but then even that isn’t all encompassing. In my room I have a thick, black book, filled with thoughts and photos and dreams and things I’ve learned and clippings and flower petals.

The last time I wrote any thoughts down for myself, before last night, was on March 12, 2006, save for a significant dream I had in May of last year that I needed to jot down for memory. Placing my thoughts on paper in a way that I could actually visualize what I was thinking was much more impacting than I remember. It’s healthy to sort things through in a way that allows your thoughts to become not unlike inanimate objects.

Last night I started thinking about life, about the decisions we make and about the thoughts that dance through our heads. What’s even more dangerous is thinking about all three simultaneously. It’s tricky to balance the ideas concerning what you want (or don’t want) in life, all the while considering the decisions required with respect to those ideals. And as women, we have it even tougher because our brains have a tenancy to be held captive by our runaway thoughts.

My point through all of this, and what I want to encourage you with, is to gain perspective. Perhaps you’re thinking “yeah, but it’s easier said than done.” While this is true, sometimes all that’s required is a small tweak in your way of thinking. The idea came to me to attempt to treat my life like a puzzle - not in that it is complicated and next-to-impossible. My life is like a puzzle in that, while it is broken up into one hundred little pieces, it’s also a whole picture.

  • Don’t try to view the entire picture at once - sometimes a piece or two are missing and what you’re seeing isn’t the whole enchilada.
  • Just like a jigsaw puzzle, you’ll never put all the pieces together with one move all at once. Have patience with yourself first, others second. As more time passes, you’ll start to figure things out.
  • Try not too get too frustrated with your circumstances, no matter how trying they may be. You may think a piece is perfect for one spot, but in fact, you may have to rotate that piece once, twice and sometimes three times before you find the way it’ll click into place the way it’s designed to.
  • Whatever puzzle piece you may be holding in your hand, whether it’s work-related, relationship-related, friend-related or even self-related, remember that it’s a piece of your puzzle, but it’s only one piece out of hundreds. Give yourself a shot in the arm of fortitude because with a little bit of time, it’s a guarantee that you’ll figure out a way to make it fit.

They had so much snow on the hill that they had to close the road for a while! Every morning you can see a fresh icing on the trees.

did you hear - Mt. Washington has the deepest snow base in the…. WORLD. crazy eh? Amen… deffinitly worth the trek for snow lovers…

This year someone told me “life’s a journey… not a destination” and it was probably one of the only pieces of advice (and man, I got a LOT!) that I actually took to heart. Similar to your puzzle illustration…

it’s a very freeing idea to take to heart.

Great analogy of life as a puzzle! I often think of it in similar terms, but less as multiple pieces making up a bigger picture and more of a bigger picture that is slowly (but surely) being put together or uncovered.

    Always a great read! Thanks.

You still haven’t told me if you prefer Keira or Keira-Anne ;)
