IT’S THE PEANUTIEST

I have had a love affair with peanut butter for the entirety of my life. I love the creamy texture, the overwhelming flavour of peanuts and the delightful dance between a dash of salt and a dollop of honey.

Throughout my childhood, I would feast on whatever was on sale – usually Skippy or Kraft. Peanut butter on apple slices, on toast, on celery sticks, on crackers or a big spoon with an even bigger scoop. Whatever it was, I couldn’t get enough and the same is true today.

However, as an adult, I have found my “ultimate lover” when it comes to peanut butter – the one that satisfies me in ways no peanut butter ever has before. Tonight I pulled the seal off one of the countless jars of Jif peanut butter I’ve devoured over my lifetime, salivating at the thought of spreading it on my intensely toasted sesame bread. Is it possible that something so simple is oh-so-satisfying?

In fact, the thought of nine peanut butter-free months of pregnancy (plus who knows how long I’d have to breastfeed for) is almost enough of a deterrent to have children. Though, let’s be honest, it’s not quite enough. And thank goodness I love Jif so much because we all know that “choosy moms choose Jif.”

So what’s your flavour? Skippy? Kraft? Jif? Something else? And furthermore, creamy or chunky? I like things smooth and creamy myself.

Smooth, with strawberry jam, on white bread. Been a while.

I remember having to make you your fav….white bread, peanut butter, sliced banana, honey and chocolate chips. Or it would be peanut butter on celery with raisins or chocolate chips. As for me….I don’t eat peanut butter.

Jif, Crunchy.

Which you can no longer buy in this town.

Kraft and Crunchy.

While living in Germany for 8 months I discovered that Germans don’t like peanut butter all that much. It was hard to find peanut butters in stores.

Tante Anne

Funny you should write this post today. I just opened a jar of Jif Crunchy tonight. I eat mine on a spoon.

Kate

I like chunky, but we never have it. I’m not the primary peanut butter buyer. And it’s Kraft, but I’m the same way I LOVE the stuff.

Daniel

@Tawcan: In Germany you get “nutella”, much better than peanut butter. ;-)

Jen

why would you have to not eat peanut butter for nine months while you were preg?

(pssst — btw, when you get preg you generally despise things you formerly loved and love things you formerly despise, so i’d wager you won’t be able to stand the stuff)

Rebecca

“old fashioned all natural crunchy”

Keira-Anne

Eating peanuts and peanut butter while either pregnant and/or breastfeeding is a huge contributing factor to peanut allergies in your children. I’d never want to risk that. I’ll go for nine months without rather than 18 years without until they move out of the house!

Amber

I agree with Jen on this one! You’d be amazed at what you no longer desire while pregnant, and even more amazed at what you DO desire! I rarely eat peanut butter, but I prefer it crunchy.

Cristina

Definitely Jif, and I always keep one jar of each on hand. My preference has always switched back and forth. Peanut butter and blackberry jelly. Yummy!!! :)

Jen

hmm…well perhaps copious amounts of it while pregnant might produce that result, but a sandwich here and there is all good…

when i was pregnant i ate tomato sauce out of a jar like it was the second coming; i seriously could not get enough of it, morning, noon, and night — i hate pasta normally and loved it…salad made me sicker than a dog, and i craved cherries

now my daughter won’t touch a tomato lol
