THAT TIME OF YEAR IS ALMOST HERE

Call me crazy for even mentioning the “C” word 76 days before it occurs, but consider this your official heads-up. In the coming weeks and days, there’s going to be much mention of the “C” word on my blog in its various forms. What can I say? I’m a giddy girl!

I love Christmas. It’s by far my favourite time of year, and not just the day of. In fact, I think I love all the anticipation and preparation leading up to Christmas more than the day itself. Today I was talking with Amy, and after converting her into a 104.9 Clear FM lover, we made mention of Michael Bublé. “I love his Christmas album,” she gushed. And with that, the excitement of the season came rushing in like a flood.

I welcome any excuse to spend time with my family and close friends, to cook, to bake and to smile. The fact that my brother and his girlfriend are going to be stuck in Dawson Creek for the holiday season is more than disappointing, but I know that our family will make the most of it. Despite that setback, I’m excited to experience the magic of the holidays for the 27th time.

There’s so much about that time that’s perfect. I love wearing sweaters and mittens, Christmas shopping, the smell of woodsmoke in the crisp air, twinkling coloured lights at night, cookies, the silence of snowy nights, and spending an entire month listening to Christmas music every single day. So much about the holiday is still highly traditional for my family - even gift giving. I love to give gifts to those I love, but even now that I’m in my 20s, my mom still to this day asks that I prepare for her a “wish list.” The only two items I’ve given her so far are a very particular hoodie that I’ve been drooling over for months (which I refuse to tell anyone else about because it’s pretty unique and I’d like it to stay that way!) and an official killer whale adoption in my name.

Want to share your wish list? I stumbled across Your Christmas List on the internet, as if you needed another networking site to sign up with.

In the meantime, curious minds needs to know: what are some of your family’s holiday traditions?

YES! I can’t even tell you how awesome that is. Just give into the twinkly feelings of Christmas. You know you love it, Corinna.

Kat

You’ll be getting my wish list very soon!

Amy

I always (well usually - except for today! ha!) wait until after Halloween to talk/think about Christmas. The day after Halloween, when I’m still half dressed in my costume and hungover, my first thought is always ‘It’s Christmas!’

the only thing worse than dawson creek is pouce coupe.

of course i love dc my gram&gramp and aunts&uncles &cousins live there. good ol mile zero. yep. and the beefalo. ah, the majestic beefalo.

i pulled out a little feliz navidad today. this year, i hope to find some holiday tunes by don ho. the people you always want to do christmas albums never do them tho. like led zeppelin. or dread zeppelin. but the best xmas movies are as follows: at number five, we have A Muppet Christmas Carol. How the Grinch Stole Christmas sits in fourth only because they chop it up worse every year sos you never know if youre gonna hear the whole song. third place goes to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. two words; stop motion. the Nightmare Before Christmas is first runner up for obvious reasons. and the bestest holiday film of the xmas holiday times izz … White Christmas.

i loves me some jimmy stewart but miracle on 34 can eat a fudge dumpling. and charlie brown is, well, oh brother. and garfield was never funny or good but bad.

andkatewaslike

killer whale adoption! that’s awesome. as is christmas.

Ack! Adam! How could you forget National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? I have to admit that I’m a bigger fan of contemporary Christmas films rather than traditional ones. In fact, I can honestly say I’ve never even seen The Grinch Who Stole Christmas in its entirety. But you can be darned sure I’ll be watching Home Alone 2: Lost In New York!

It’s too bad about not finding the Christmas CDs you want. Corinna told me that you were already breakin’ out the holiday tunes today and I say “good on ya!” Perhaps if you can’t find Don Ho you’d settle for Boney M. Lucky for me, Hanson put out their own Christmas record a few years back ;)

Duane

I love Christmas too. I didn’t pull my Christmas tree down until nearly June I think this year.

Jennifer Stoddart

‘Home Alone 2: Lost In New York’ is a classic! I thought I was the only one who appreciated it! hehe. I can remember seeing it as a kid and falling in love with NYC. I’m with you on the contemporary Christmas movies. I always loved ‘Ernest Saves Christmas’ too. And of course ‘National Lampoon’s’ but my all time fave is ‘Santa Claus The Movie’ (the one with Dudley Moore as the elf!)
Ah, how I love the Christmas season. The hustle and bustle is so much fun!

Raul

There are many good things about Christmas. The only problem is that my family is spread in three countries and thus it’s a hassle to try and coordinate a full family gathering. This year, two families won’t be coming as they’re stuck in their respective countries. But it should be fun anyways.

I love decorating my (really tiny) apartment with Christmas decorations. It reminds me that this is my place (despite the fact that I love visiting my parents for Christmas).

i cannot believe that NO ONE has mentioned A Christmas Story! 24 hour marathon on TBS, all the “you’ll shoot your eye out” and “fa ra ra ra ra” memories? It’s an integral part of the Christmas season

Keira-Anne

I have never seen A Christmas Story.

TBS is now Peachtree Station or something Georgian like that.

Bethany

we’ll be hitting the Qualicum Christmas Craft Fair - It was SOOOO much fun last year! The ventors were diverse and the goods were amazing…

you?

Keira-Anne

I’ve never been to the Qualicum craft fair, but there’s always a great one at the Filberg Centre in downtown Courtenay that I like to go to with my mom. You should check that one out this year!
