It’s 6:10 p.m., I just had a warm bath, dressed myself in pajama pants, a t-shirt, hoodie and slippers, and there’s hot beef and garlic grilling in the kitchen for dinner. Tonight’s menu: steak beef fajitas with yellow peppers, red onion and Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese. I feel fantastic. I’m warm, cozy, a little sleepy and excited knowing that my belly will soon be stuffed full of my mom’s Mexican cuisine.
I’m also getting old.
I found this picture of myself last night while scrolling through my mom’s cell phone. I really think it hardly looks like me at all. I don’t think that I look older than I did last year (this photo was taken sometime in late spring 2006), but I certainly feel older. Maybe a little wiser, maybe a little more cynical, but also more myself.
With that, the “old soul” that so many people claim I possess is really starting to emerge. Lately, the one thing that gets me through the work day that I actually look forward to is zoning out to easy listening radio on my computer’s headphones. I let 104.9 Clear FM buffer and I’m on my way to a blissful land where I spend the day visiting with Fleetwood Mac, Sarah McLachlan, John Mayer and The Police. I am, for the first time ever, able to tollerate Phil Collins’ “Sussudio.” Even I can’t believe that much. Not only am I listening to 104.9 on a daily basis, I’ve also signed up as a Clear Rewards member. I have accumulated over 10,000 points by going to their website and either entering the bonus code from my e-mail newsletters or by entering the Artist of the Day. Today I used 450 of those points to enter a members-only contest to win tickets to see Michael Bublé. I don’t even like Michael Bublé. This is what it’s come to. This is what I get excited about.

My mom arrived in Vancouver yesterday afternoon and we started her holiday week off with a bang. Or should I say slap…stick. The last time ma mere attended a Vancouver Canucks game was in the late 70s, before I was born. That being said, she’d certainly never been to GM Place either. After one of my favourite dinners out at Wings (can you say 39-cent wings with beer from 2-6 p.m.?) with Brock, I told her we were headed to Tinseltown for a movie but refused to tell her which one. Once we reached Beatty and Georgia, she was pleading with me to tell her which movie we were seeing, and all I said was “I lied” before unzipping my jacket to reveal my Canucks shirt. “Nooo…” was all she could say.
So, after snagging a pair of $100 tickets for $60 from an “independent ticket broker,” we ventured inside, grabbed a couple of beers and watched the Canucks take on the San Jose Sharks. I must take a moment to point out that last night was the first time in all my years, to my recollection, that I saw my mom consume a beer - and Molson Canadian at that. In the end, the Sharks whipped us 4-3 in a shoot-out, but I know she had a great time. Care to hear my mom’s side of the story? She blogged about it here.

Lastly I just want to thank everyone who responded to my last post concerning open marriages. It seems there are a myriad of opinions and points of view out there, and all are valid. For those of you that shared your experiences, words of wisdom or anything that was on your mind, thank you for doing so.

I love Michael Bublé! The tickets are so expensive though. You’ll have a good time, his voice is soothing.
Your mom has a blog! How cool is that?
And there you go with the wings and beer again. I think you’re intentionally trying to make me jealous now
Michael buble sucks.
I hear he’s a jerk. Ask (brock i think)
