Strip-O-Rama

According to the official website, Rilo Kiley’s newest disc, Under the Blacklight, was slated for an August 28th release date. I’ve been highly anticipating this date for weeks and weeks, so today I just did a check-in with HMV to make sure that the 28th was, in fact, the release date.

Available Now

That’s what was listed beside the record’s image. “It can’t be!” I thought. I checked the official RK website and the fact was verified. To ensure that I wasn’t hallucinating, I stopped in at HMV after work and saw a large handful of beautifully cellophane-wrapped copies of Under the Blacklight. They were $10.99 each, I might add.

It was a Thursday miracle! In the midst of one of the shittiest months I have had in recent memory, a ray of light. I snatched it up and raced it home. About two songs in, all I could say to myself was “Holy shit…this record fuckin’ rocks!” And only moments later, the first single, “Moneymaker,” started thumping out from my speakers. Being that I had just been poolside working on my coconutting, I was still bikini-clad. And with that, my living room instantly became a Strip-O-Rama. Hot damn this is a fun record.

Each song is beautiful in its own right, and I can’t say that this record is like anything RK have released before. Even on the first listen through, I found myself actually singing along to songs I’d never heard before and it felt SO good. I’ve been a fan for years and years, back when they were still signed with Saddle Creek in Nebraska. Jenny Lewis has been rocking my world for even longer, and she’s one extremely rare chicka that I’d be more than happy to have a white cotton panty-wearing pillow fight with.

Anyways, I’m not going to get into specifics about the record because, let’s face it, I’m far too biased. I love it in its entirety. You owe it to yourself to discover Rilo Kiley on your own. Check out “Moneymaker” below.

I was never a huge fan of tattoos. I’m not sure why…I guess I was always just too fickle and couldn’t imagine for the life of me what I’d put on my body forever. However, I think I’m now realizing that it’s because a tattoo, in my own opinion, is supposed to hold some meaning and be symbolic to the bearer. It wasn’t until now that I’ve felt experienced in life enough to know which sorts of images would be representative of me. It’s only just now that I’ve begun to realize what really matters to me, and that’s solid enough to be something to carry with me throughout my entire life (such as an image).

So, my question to you, my only friends, is this: what is your personal opinion on tattoos? Tattoos on women in particular? Love ‘em? Hate ‘em?

And to Emily Dyck in particular: You got a tattoo on a bony area of your body. The tattoo I’m considering would also be on an incredibly bony area. I have a very, very high pain tolerance, but I can’t imagine what a tattoo would actually feel like. Input, please!

I actually have a pretty good and solid idea of what I’d like to get, and no, it’s nothing like the illustration above. That’s just something I found that’s pretty gorgeous.

For some reason, I feel like I had something else to write about tonight but I guess I don’t. I was contemplating Part 3 of Crackerjack Timing, but I have some toenails that need painting and a bag that needs packing. Lata’, kids.

Bring the CD for the return trip!
Tattoos…I am really torn about these. You need to get feedback from women who have them.

>> Love ‘em? Hate ‘em?

Love ‘em. I think there sexy as hell.

>> I can’t imagine what a tattoo would actually feel like

Not half as bad as people make them out to be in my opinion, and I have a rather low threshold of pain. Less of a strong hurt and more of a protracted irritation. You do feel it a lot more on bone though, especially with the outline, but it isn’t unbearable. And the pain doesn’t linger either which is nice.

tats can be kill.
you just have to know that when you are a grandma have to stretch your skin to show your grandkids what that amorphous colored blob on your flesh is YOU still have to think it’s cool.
that being said…
go for it.

Ange

K! I’m shocked you didnt ask me!!?? haha.. When I was getting the tattoo on my foot.. it was shall we say unpleasant.. but bearable..
The tatoo on my back.. was easy.. a dream.. almost fell asleep.
Being a girl with 2 and most likley getting more tattoos.. it think it’s all about how YOU want to present yourself.. you can go h.core and get very visable LARGE tattoos or you can get small hidden ones that are only for you, and a very select audience…
And as for growing out of them, or being fickle… I look at mine as not nessesarily something I will ALWAYS love.. but something that at the time was completely accurate to where I was, who I was… and that memory comes flooding back every single time I look at it…
I’ve changed tonns from when I got my first tattoo in 2002 and I still appreciate it…
I’m all about designing your own art… or at least having a unique idea or way of presenting something that alot of people tattoo.
I feel as though tattoos are self expression, and a way to help yourself never forget what you’ve been through, or where you’ve been.

i love tattoos, especially on women, although there are plenty of shitty ones out there. and as for the whole “you’ll still have it when you’re old and grey,” i kinda give the old people i run into every so often with tattoos bonus points - you know, like the old sailors and whatnot.

and i just found out about the new rilo kiley so here i go, out to find it.

I’m not totally against tattoos. I have a friend whose brother is a tattoo artist. She’s got this dragon tattoo that spans pretty much her entire back. I think she had it done in 3 parts. Of course she was sore for a couple days after each session. It’s a rather nice dragon too! And here’s the finished product!

being a former artist,i like tats.the artwork these days is much better.i’ve drawn up a few for former band members.i personally don’t want any.as far as girls having them,i don’t mind when they have a few.but it was a trend for girls to get the usual tats in the usual places.that to me is what i don’t like.tats are usually ment to symbol a rememberence to someone who passed on,a change in life,or something special in your life like kids, family,career,etc..for example.arm sleeves is kinda a turn off with all those piercings.i’m sure you won’t go that route cause its more of a lifestyle at that point.

as for you,i’ve been reading your page for awhile.if i remember correctly your in your mid 20’s,so your most likely not going to get one on a whim.your a complicated girl and if you do something like get a tat,it gonna mean something.
just be original and get something that really means something to you.

Keira-Anne

Wow…thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I really, really appreciate it!

Anonymous, thanks for sharing a bit of insight. I guess I am technically a complicated girl, but I take that as a compliment. Haha - should I? I think I’m the right amount of complicated.

Anyways, you hit the nail on the head. Deciding to potentially ink my body isn’t something I’m taking lightly. I need to get my design drawn up first, then wait it out and think about it. The only place I’m considering getting it is directly down the length of my spine, which the placement of is very significant in itself aside from the actual tattoo. My e-mail address is at the top of the sidebar - feel free to e-mail me sometime and I can describe my idea to you if you’re interested. I like bouncing things off people with a bit of experience. Have a good night…

A tattoo can look really sexy on a woman. I feel that whoever decides to get one, man or woman, should think about it a few times before getting inked. Don’t get drunk and then get one. Or don’t get one just because all your friends have one. And for a woman, a small tattoo can heighten her beauty.
