It’s about damn time.

After a long, cold, rainy, windy winter, it’s finally starting to feel like spring has arrived in Vancouver. To be honest, the continuous rain was becoming quite depressing. I walked to Kitsilano this afternoon to meet a friend for coffee and pick up a new pair of snowboard pants (being as I ripped a 9″ hole up the ass crack of my old ones last time I went snowboarding). Coffee with Pete was wonderful, and I scooped up a great deal at Westbeach. A pair of black Volcom riding pants that were regularly $249.99 plus tax, on sale for $99.99 plus tax. Last pair, my size. Well, not really…there were no smalls left but the mediums have belt loops, so I’m sure I’ll be fine. Not that you really need to know that. Anyways, you can follow the link at the left to see more pictures that I took along my walk.

If you’re bored this afternoon, here are a couple more video clips to keep you amused. Both are from Jackass Number Two which, while not an overly intelligent movie, supplies primal laughs. The first clip was of one of my favourite skits: The Valentine. Watch out for potty mouths.

This second video clip depicts Weeman’s battle with the “card throwing machine.” Don’t say I didn’t warn you about naked bum.

This free bird you’ll never change.

“If we do this, it’s the end of it all. You know that, right?” Maybe he was asking her because she seemed unsure. Or, perhaps it was because he himself couldn’t believe what they were attempting. She turned her head to the side and looked up at him. Her indigo eyes, though warm, conveyed a mix of fear and inspiration. The corners of her lips turned slightly upwards as she locked with his brown optics and that was enough. He realized that she was as bound as he was.

The blazing sun had closed up shop for the night, leaving a crisp glow on the vista to light the path that the beat up, once-white Eldorado would take. A few bags occupied the backseat. Both doors slammed shut within split seconds of each other, throwing dust onto the walls of the car. He turned the key, causing the engine to roar to life and the radio to begin rattling through the speakers. Appropriately enough, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Freebird” broke the deserted silence.

She said to him: “We’re doing this and it’s the end of it all. I know it’s right.”

He drove.

Intervention please.

I am addicted to Facebook. That is all.

Here is another Russell Peters video for your viewing delight. It’s a clip of the one joke that he is most famous for. It might offend you. Suck it up, princesses.

"I’m Arriving! Ahhh…"

Well hello there, children. I know that in my last blog post I promised that my next blog post would be written with regards to something substantial, but to be completely honest, I’m exhausted. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally also. Aside from work (which has actually been very quiet and uneventful), things have been a little chaotic. I’m not about to indulge you all with the details, but if you know me at all, you already know the details. However, I am well and my heart is well.

The best solution to almost anything is humour. Okay, so perhaps that’s not entirely true, but it certainly can help. Last year my brother introduced me to a fantastic Canadian comedian named Russell Peters. Some of you may have heard of him, some of you may not. He’s an East Indian from Vancouver but has gained worldwide fame for poking fun at his own culture (as well as other cultures). Try not to take him too seriously and you’ll find the humour in it all. I’ve posted a clip from his recent “Outsourced” DVD, and if you haven’t seen one of his stand-up routines in its entirety, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Be excellent to each other.

I was in desperate need of some childhoodness (yes, I just made up that word) yesterday afternoon, so I cracked open my big box of DVDs and pulled out Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It was back in 1989 that I first fell in lust with Keanu Reeves and I still lust after him today (we’ll pretend the Matrix never happened). It’s true that I’d pick all 42 years of him over Colin Farrell, Lukas Haas or even Leonardo DiCaprio. I’d hit it so bad. Er, okay, I’m getting a little side-tracked. But truthfully, this movie always takes me back to a time when life was comfortable and carefree. Every great movie from the 80s had a memorable and climactic ending, and this one was no exception. Who will ever forget Bill and Ted’s history presentation to Mr. Ryan and their entire grade? You know you’re a true child of the 80s if you know who the Wyld Stallyns are and that their music is not only conducive to one day aligning the planets, but also that it’s excellent for dancing. Need proof? Hit me up on MSN and I’ll send you the “Wyld Stallyns” performing “In Time.” Truthfully, however, it’s someone named Robbie Rob. Doesn’t matter though - the song is gnarly.

So let’s see…I haven’t blogged in more than a week so there must be something I can post about. Susan and I went shopping in the U.S. on Saturday in her dad’s “hot rod.” We’d been looking forward to a road trip together for, literally, years and so it finally happened. The day was filled with excellent shopping scores, a speeding ticket (70 in a 60 zone…c’mon!), Auntie Anne’s pretzels, Starbucks, Foo Fighters (and other rad tunes), Wal-Mart self check-outs, FUN!, and so much more. Thankfully we had a lenient border guard both ways and got into the U.S. with no problems and got back into Canada without paying a single penny in duty. Having cleavage is a gift, I swear. Here’s some of the cheap swag I scored:

Retro Puma sneakers for $15 at the outlet - Matt is insanely jealous. He wants them for himself.

An incredibly cute chocolate brown A-line strapless cotton summer dress from the Gap for only $4.99! I can’t believe it either.

Victoria’s Secret Love Spell Silkening Body Splash for only $5. Em-kitty would be proud.

Aside from that, things are pretty much the same as always. Things at the office will hopefully pick up a little bit now that my boss is back in town. Is it weird that I actually missed having him at the office? Mr. Matt’s finished mixing the record and it sounds nothing short of amazing. We’ve just been watching lots of movies, drinking lots of wine, making lots of salad and spending fun time with the dogs. I snapped this shot of Casey on Saturday night after he finally tired of playing with his crack-ball. He’s beyond handsome and beyond amazing. I think I’ve taken up enough of your time by babbling about nothing of consequence, so I’ll bid you all adieu with the promise of writing about something substantial or meaningful next time - and soon!

Amped

This is my friend Darren. Darren works as a groomer at Mt. Washington, and when I arrived there this morning, not only were the lifts not yet open, Darren hadn’t finished grooming the tube park. This equated to me getting the chance to ride in the groomer with him for a few minutes. It’s interesting for sure but a little scary when you push snow to the point where you’re teetering on a 50 foot drop when in a big, heavy machine. But that’s besides the point. Darren is rad and I was stoked to see him.

That isn’t, however, the only reason I was feeling stoked all day. Today was only my second time snowboarding this season (and fourth time overall - ever), and I reached a lot of major milestones in my snowboarding skill development. They are as follows:

1) I figured out that I am regular, and not “goofy” as was previously suspected;

2) I rode to the top of the Eagle Express (formerly known as the blue chair), which I hadn’t even done when I was a two-planker;

3) I rode to the top of the Sunrise Quad, also which I hadn’t even done as a two-planker;

4) I grasped the concept of using my back foot as a rudder and weight to steer myself when going straight down the hill;

5) I can much more easily ride all the way to the base of the lift, even on the flat parts, without unstrapping one foot or removing my board completely to walk the last bit; and

6) My proudest moment when I made my first turn onto my TOE EDGE (yes, you read that correctly) and then back onto my heel edge without bailing!

My body is a little sore and stiff, though not as much as last time. My knees aren’t nearly as battered because there was a foot of fresh powder. Yes, a foot of fresh powder. The drive up was too treacherous so I left my truck at the chain-up area and bussed up with my dear old friend Rebecca (whom I hadn’t seen since the summer after high school graduation). But for now, I’m too tuckered out to write anything more.

It was rad.
Oh and I split a huge rip up the ass of my pants. Time for new snowboard pants.

This is what I look like when I smile.

Another weekend come and gone, each one breezing by more quickly than the last. Miss Emily Dyck was in town to celebrate her 19th birthday, so a bunch of us made sure that it was a weekend to make her feel celebrated. On Friday, I hosted a mini dinner party for Emily with Brock, Jessi, Austin, Jayma and myself in attendance. We feasted on enchiladas, addictive guacamole, chocolate torte and copious amounts of alcohol. Jessi was blitzed. Emily, on the other hand, is seemingly building quite the tolerance. I’m not yet sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. On Saturday, after a day of shopping and some hang time at the studio, some of the hottest boiz in the city showed Emily what it means to dance like a Celebrity. It was hot and sweaty. And totally awesome. In case we forgot to say it, Em…

Happy Birthday!

This week is nearly over for me. Only two more days of work left until I ship on out on the ferry to return to Vancouver Island and spend a fabulous day snowboarding (pray for fresh powder!) with Rebecca. As always, of course, I’m looking forward to spending q.t. with my mom and Aunt. I only wish my brother wasn’t slaving away in the North for coin. He is, however, making quite a bit of it, so I’m actually pretty happy for him.
Um, that’s it for now.

Oh and also…I’m pretty stoked on life and where I’m at these days.

Love you.

8 sleeps…that’s it.

It has been exactly one month since I was on the Island, and I have another week to wait until I’m there again. However, it’s still 8 more sleeps until I can hit the slopes at Mt. Washington. This young grasshopper is ready to hop again. I’m excited for the “beep-beep-beep,” bruised knees, gravy fries, soft powder, a sore bum, Volcom boys, sunshine, Aussie accents, the smell of snow, dusty trees, steep inclines, a chilly face, canned Kokannee, girl talk, green “talk,” toe-edge tripping and everything else a day at the mountain includes.

It’s gonna be so rad…
