Come to see the show?

Remember that time you saw that really good movie that made you pay attention? Didn’t think so. Brick is that movie. I’d heard about this film since it was entered into the 2005 Sundance Film Festival (being the Lukas Haas fan that I am), and now it’s been re-cut and released on DVD. I walked by the poster in the movie store window for weeks until finally picking it up last night, not fully knowing what it was about.

Hours before discovering her lifeless body, Brendan receives a cryptic message in a phonebooth from his ex-girlfriend, Emily, and finds himself diving into a rabbit hole in an attempt to unravel the mystery that builds. And much like Alice, Brendan encounters unusual characters and suspects that know too much, know too little, or aren’t willing to talk. These characters ultimately lead Brendan to The Pin, someone whose trust in Brendan begins a slow unravelling of the events that are crashing down around Brendan.

Brick had me hooked instantaneously. I will not say anything else about the movie or what happens. All the events that take place culminate in a climax that made me turn away in horror, while at the same time desperately trying to tune out what I was hearing. It was all too real. Beautifully acted, written with strength and skill. It’s unfortunate that most people only take the time to watch movies that are aggressively marketed instead of picking up the films off the movie store shelf that would otherwise be overlooked. Don’t miss Brick.

In other news, my so-called fabulous life has been, well, not quite living up to expectation, but sometimes that happens. Friday night Susan and I had the privilege of VIP treatment at the Canucks and Flames game at GM Place. I’ll never turn down a live hockey game. And for the record, we won 3-2. Yesterday my day comprised of transit travel and spending the remainder of the day in Maple Ridge. I was fortunate enough to have a surprise house guest for the night in the form of Ryan Lee. We hit up Joe’s Grill for brunch this morning before doing a little shopping. I twisted Ryan’s rubber arm into buying Tuesdays With Morrie, while I picked up Elton John’s Greatest Hits (for a whopping $5.99) at HMV and a pair of jeans at the Gap for thirty bucks. I’m done rambling. Go rent Brick.

My life = A, B, C, , E, F, G…

I tried to rent this movie last night at blockbuster… you had me so pumped about it! And there were none to be found. I went and talked to the guy at the till and he said that someone had rented it last month and never brought it back :( Yeesh! I think I’ll have to try Rogers next time I’m in a movie mood

Keira

You should definitely try Rogers. I got it from there and they had nearly 20 copies available to rent. That was, however, one of the Rogers Video locations on Davie. Who’s to say what Calgary stocks.

But good on ya, babe :)
